Rooms in Retrograde

What was first planned as a quick ocular visit turned out to be an overnight stay filled with merry memories and astounding beauty and hospitality like no other. When we first stepped into Casa San Pablo, our last stop during the first leg of our Laguna road trip, nighttime had already struck but even the looming darkness didn’t stop us from appreciating the marvelous sight that was transformed by candlelit grass lawns, towering pine trees and the chilly blow of the evening breeze.

As we were resting by the guest lounge, the owner and inn keeper, Mr. Boots Alcantara warmly welcomed and showed us around the place. He cheerfully shared to us the story behind the place, from its beginnings as an inherited coconut farm, to its conversion as a farm resort and finally, up to its majestic transformation as a peaceful haven that it is now known. Casa San Pablo is a country inn in San Pablo, Laguna that is similar to many bed-and-breakfast places in the West but still notably stand out because of its cozy and retro-inspired lodging rooms and the serene and rustic ambiance resonating in its exterior. Unlike many commercialized hotels, each of their 16 rooms are unique and were creatively put together by the keen artistic eye of several renowned artists and the owners, themselves. From the pastel-colored walls, vintage furniture and rare artworks, there is nothing inside a Casa San Pablo room that could not leave you wordless. Each room doesn’t just have a theme of its own, it has character that carefully reflects the imaginative minds of its creators, may it be a framed hotwheels collection mounted on the wall or a nude painting painted on the exact room, itself. It also doesn’t rob comfort from its guests since every room is air-conditioned, has hot-and-cold showers and all in all, can even accommodate up to 120 guests (thanks to those cleverly crafted retractable bunk beds!). Everything in Casa San Pablo is truly art in every sense and beauty in every angle. And, every minute we spent there seemed like an answer to our craving imagination and soulful desire for comfort and tranquility.
